The Rocaya Kaftan carries a story of the bonds of sisterhood. This kaftan, with its elegant slit and knitted ribbing on the wrist along with threads of silver or gold, is designed for versatility that could be worn for a formal gathering or styled with an urban edge, the Rocaya Kaftan embodies quiet power and effortless sophistication.  

Beyond its silhouette, this dress is a tribute to Rocaya Datua, a revered weaver and culture bearer from Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. Our paths first crossed at Sharrif Kabunsuan Festival in Cotabato in 2022, where an instant connection turned into a friendship rooted in a shared love for tradition and "kwentuhan". In the months that followed, our conversations became a cherished ritual—Friday morning phone calls filled with laughter, wisdom, and the occasional playful banter.  

Rocaya’s journey was one of courage. She battled cancer with the same fierce spirit she wove into her textiles, facing each day with resilience and humor. After a period of remission, the illness returned in late 2024. Our calls became fewer, and soon, news came through her niece. In February 2025, Rocaya took her final rest, embraced by the love of her family.  

This dress is made from the very textiles we received from her months before her passing—a final gift of her hands, her story, her spirit. We honor her through every stitch, hoping that those who wear the Rocaya Kaftan embody the strength, fearlessness, and joy that defined her.  

Rest in peace, Ate Rocaya. Your hands may have set down the loom, but your legacy continues to weave itself into the world.
