Gabriella Tie Around Crop Top
A restock in other Cordillera textiles.
When I was working on this crop top, I'm imagining the women I met in the Cordillera regions, particularly in Kalinga and Ifugao. I look at them gracefully hiking up and down the terraces of their village either carrying their kid, peacefully walking around from work, setting up their back strap looms, or making delicious-smelling food in the kitchen. Most if not all of the women I've met during my journeys in the North are artists of many genres. They weave, they play music, they dance. They do it all! Their motivation isn't for any diploma or some status, but it is how it is. It's been their way of life. And the same thing is influenced over generations by their kids, grandkids, and the rest of their community. They are heroes! Much as how I've been inspired by the stories of Gabriela Silang, every woman I have met in the Cordilleras are those I can only aspire to be. This crop top is inspired by them and designed from the power I see in them.
